(Un) HAPPINESS
Putting those two simple letters before HAPPINESS gives it such a totally different meaning. Everyone is striving for HAPPINESS, looking for quick fixes. Can it be purchased, in a book, a pill, a work out plan or a to do list ? Happiness is not ‘something to be purchased’. Talented intelligent people keep going back to the same patterns and making the same mistakes time and time again. In the search for HAPPINESS you must remember it is not external, it is inside you. You hold the power to bring it out.
You create unhappiness each time you imagine HAPPINESS is an object. You bring out unhappiness each time you search for HAPPINESS. Convincing yourself that you are inadequate, that your life needs something more, that you need to own things and achieve great things to be happy. By doing this you are keeping yourself shackled to unhappiness. Fixated on self absorbed matters and worldly pursuits that only create superficial and temporary pleasure.
Matthew Jones – Counselling Psychologist wrote “Happiness is the sun, you are the clouds”. He explained it like this, These clouds fill with rain the more you think through your emotional discomfort, the more you remove yourself from the here and now, the more that you dilute your experience of now with thoughts of then. The darker and denser these clouds become, the less light you see and the less warmth you feel and the faster you forget that the sun is always shining. “stop preventing the rain”. The more we agitate and distress over our unhappiness and worries, the worse off we become.
I experienced these feelings in my own life as I struggled with the enormity of my circumstances. I discovered that the only way to discover HAPPINESS again was to surrender to it. Surrender to the fear. Open yourself up. Transform your habits and stop practising unhappiness. You are your own storm, creating your own dark clouds and blocking the sun and it’s golden rays. Things will go wrong and shit does happen at times. Mind your mental energy however. Life is too short to be stressed about every little thing. Don’t waste that positive energy on mean people or unfortunate events. Learn as I did to roll with things beyond your control and push your energy in the direction of what you really care about and where you really want to be. The more you seek HAPPINESS outside of you in material things the more you are reinforcing your isolation from it’s presence.
In my Coaching practice i work with clients to start their self development process, not with a magical potion or pill, instead we work on facing their vulnerability and focusing on internal work and on the areas that are most important in there lives. Once the light bulbs start to go on the transformation is unreal.
IT’S NOT EXTERNAL, IT’S INSIDE OF YOU. HAPPINESS IS PRESENT IN YOUR LIFE, YOU JUST HAVE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY TO FIND IT.
